Dental Friendly Travel Tips

It is a new year and that means it’s time to start planning this year’s vacation! You may already have your destination in mind or maybe you are ahead of the game and have your trip all planned. Whatever the case, stay on top of your oral health with these dental friendly travel tips!

Before You Go

Having a dental emergency while on vacation is pretty much one of the best ways to ruin that vacation! Prevent the issues by scheduling a cleaning and exam before your trip. In this way, your dentist can detect and take care of any issues that may be present.

Pack It!

Toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste- the basics! Thankfully, it’s usually pretty easy to buy extras if you forget one or more of these items. On the other hand, don’t make the mistake of forgetting something a little harder to replace like your retainer or night guard! Crooked teeth are not something you want to come home with, nor do you want to deal with any headaches from grinding or clenching your teeth at night without your night guard.

Travel by Plane

According to Everydayhealth.com, “The air inside the cabin of a plane usually has a humidity level of 10 to 20 percent — much lower than a comfortable typical indoor humidity of 30 to 65 percent…it’s very important to take measures to keep yourself hydrated while you’re on a plane.” Dehydration is no friend to dental health since dry mouth can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, drink plenty of water before, during, and after the flight.
